The truck among the vans
Take the advantages of a van, combine them with the strengths of a light truck and base everything firmly on a modular principle – this is the recipe for success to which the Vario owes its permanent place of exception in the van segment.

Vario Panel Van
With its cargo volume of up to 17.4 m³ and a payload capacity of up to 3895 kg, the Vario panel van proves that whatever you dish out, the van can take it. Possible areas of use are regional haulage, industry and commerce, the furniture removal trade and the public sector. You can choose between three wheelbase lengths and two roof heights.
Vario Pickup
If a particularly robust van is what you need, the Vario pickup is the ideal choice for all applications. A choice of four wheelbase lengths provide a cargo area of between 6.92 and 14.79 m².
Vario Tipper
To the right, left or rear – when unloading goods, the Vario tipper is anything but one-sided. As three-way tipper ex-factory it shows itself from its best side wherever space is scarce. And owing to its turning circle of just 11.8 metres, the tipper handles as easily as a passenger car.
Vario Chassis Cab
Special jobs call for special solutions: whether aerial platform or shop on wheels, the Vario affords highest possible flexibility for body mounting. In cooperation with expert body manufacturers we create the van suited to your individual requirements.
Transportation made-to-measure
Each of our customers has to meet very specific challenges in his day-to-day work. And as these demands are becoming larger by the day, there are numerous Vario panel van variants to meet them.
- 3 wheelbase variants
- Standard and high roof versions with 1785 mm or 1930 mm headroom
- 10.4 m³ to 17.4 m³ cargo volume
- payload of up to 3.9 t
- Tonnages of 5.99 and 7.49 t with further load capacity increases and reductions
- option of passenger compartment, providing space for a total of up to 7 people
- different bulkhead options plus different combinations of rear doors and sliding side doors
- all-wheel-drive version optionally available (3700 and 4250 mm wheelbase)
Functionality. Well thought-out-all-round
The Vario doesn’t only earn bonus points on account of its size. Its functionality, too, is highly convincing, for instance the possibility to load Euro palettes with a fork-lift
The panel van has been thought out right down to the smallest detail: the sidewalls are virtually vertical and the wheel housings can be optionally flattened out. This guarantees optimum usage of space, either for stacking loads or for individual equipment installation.
And steps at all doors, making loading and unloading easier
Comfort
When designing the interior we concentrated on providing sensible solutions to relieve driver stress and offer passengers a relaxing, comfortable journey.
The well laid-out dashboard with clear, non-reflective instruments, the driver’s seat, adjustable in a number of ways, and an efficient heating and ventilation system relieve stress and help the driver concentrate. Thanks to the large windscreen, visibility is excellent; thanks to power steering as standard, the driver is in full control.
And as many as 7 persons, including driver, can easily be accommodated in the optional passenger compartment. The comfortable seats which relieve the strain on the back, offer all the occupants excellent support.
A high-performance heating and ventilation system provides a pleasant work atmosphere. In addition, an air conditioning system [1] or an auxiliary heater with time switch are optionally available.
Safety
We have simply never let anything slow us down when it comes to the scope of safety equipment offered.
The Vario features a dual-circuit compressed-air hydraulic brake system with automatic brake adjustment, automatic load-sensitive brake pressure control (ALB) on the rear axle and internally-ventilated disc brakes with ABS anti-lock brake system all-round.
And if the worst should come to the worst, the optional driver’s front airbag [1] in conjunction with belt tensioners will protect you.

Vario Chassis Cab Functionality
The Vario doesn’t only earn bonus points on account of its size – it is quite simply one for all.
With its robust ladder-type frame the Vario chassis is the ideal base for special body requirements
It combines the advantages of a light truck and typical van characteristics such as low frame height and optional access to the load compartment from the cab.
Ask your authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer to advise you about tailor-made vehicle solutions for special operation or special-purpose bodies - for example for dry freight / standard box body or insulated / refrigerated box body.
A great many body manufacturers [1] offer diverse special solutions, which can be precisely adapted to your requirements and the nature of the vehicle operation.
One would have to look really hard to find a truck or van application not covered by a Vario.

All the Vario tippers are extremely versatile. Ex works designed as 3-way tippers, thanks to a specially reinforced tipper body and strengthened frame, they can load up to 3.8 tonnes and unload towards the rear, to the right or to the left
