The Fuso has been manufactured by Fuso in Tramagal/Portugal since 1980. Tramagal is located 150 km north of Lisbon. The factory achieves a production capacity of 15,000 units per year and shift with approximately 430 employees (status: October 2004). More than 110,000 vehicles have been produced here to date. High production quality, certified with ISO-standards, combined with a rigorous test program and extensive final inspection and quality checks lead to a tough and reliable truck.

In the United Kingdom the Sales and Marketing headquaters of Fuso is located in Milton Keynes, sitting within the Commercial Vehicle division alongside Mercedes-Benz.
At a local level, Fuso Fuso is Sold and Supported through the Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle network.

More to it than meets the eye

The first thing that will strike a positive note with you is the low-level entry with wide door apertures, combined with doors which open in 2 stages up to an angle of 78 degrees. No wheelarches to impede entry. No centre tunnel impedes through-cab access. The non-slip step protected from the effects of dirt makes it easy for you to make your way to the Isringhausen seats.

Adjustable steering wheel.

The steering wheel, adjustable for height and inclination, plus the optional armrests enable you to quickly find your optimum seating position. Ergonomically designed controls for the heater, air conditioning and auxiliary functions are within easy reach, making the daily hard grind child’s play to you.

Dash-mounted gearshift.

The dash-mounted gearshift – first in this class – feels good to hold right from the start. But there’s more to it than that. The short shift travel and precise selector gate enable you to quickly find the right gear as you go about your work. It also makes through-cab access easier and creates even more space for the 2 passengers
on the wide bench seat. This means up to 7 people can be accommodated in the crew cab

Ride comfort par excellence.

Working away powerfully and quietly below you, delivering up to 180 hp (132 kW). All the effort that went into noise insulation and the aerodynamic design of seals and mirrors is evident as every kilometre slips by. The optimised leaf spring design, combined with the standard driver suspension seat, allow you to glide easily over the stresses and strains of everyday life.

The new business climate index.

Large ventilation nozzles, a powerful blower and the optional air conditioning system ensure a pleasant climate, even if things are hotting up on the road. The optional auxiliary heater is provided in the crew cab for cold days.

Greater protection from dirt.

Door handles, steps, seat covers, cab floor – everything on the new Fuso is, of course, designed for the tough jobs you have to do. All the main maintenance and service points (oil level, washer fluid, brake fluid) are housed in the cab so they can be checked easily. In addition, the wash/wipe water nozzles are located directly on
the wiper blades, where they are protected from ice and dust. And with the optional headlamp washer system, you will have all the light you need to find your way home – even after a dusty day’s work.

More storage facilities.

In the door trim, in the dashboard, between and behind the seats, under the sun visor. The new Fuso provides substantially more storage facilities. Even special compartments for toll and fuel cards. On the crew cab you’ll also find two spacious storage compartments in the rear bench seat. As an option, you can supplement

Better all-round visibility.

Deep-drawn side windows, large heated mirrors with turning function for wide bodies, halogen headlamps. And if the job you do particularly requires all-round visibility, we even offer an optional reversing camera for the Fuso. This way, you protect your valuable vehicle body and always know what’s going on behind you.

There’s one thing about your Fuso that will never change: The high cost-efficiency, even when transporting very high loads. This is because anyone moving things every day as part of their job needs a strong, manoeuvrable partner. Even with the compact exterior dimensions of Fuso’s new cab you don’t have to compromise on
comfort. You’ll feel just as at home negotiating narrow lanes as you are driving long distances without risk of fatigue. The comfort cab combines the manoeuvrability afforded by the concept with the spaciousness that only a cab-over-engine design can offer you. With no irritating engine tunnel. With no wheel arches protruding
into the cab. With easy through-cab access and lots of space for up to 3 people. And available immediately with the dash-mounted gearshift – a first feature in its class.

First came the idea. Can the safety of a cab-over-engine design be significantly improved? As part of our extensive crash research programme the vehicle was investigated in detail in the required crash tests. The findings thus obtained were supplemented by comprehensive computer simulations and practical trials and turned into measures which were then implemented on the product. The results are impressive:

Fuso Realized Impact Safety Evolution (RISE).

A reinforced chassis frame and closed cross-sections in the frame carrier are combined with parallel crossed door frame structures and an energy-absorbing instrument carrier. These passive safety systems leave considerably more room for the occupants in the event of a crash. Additional protection is provided by optional airbags for driver and passenger and belt tensioners on the threepoint seatbelts

Active safety with ABS.

So that it doesn’t even come to that, the Fuso is fitted with ABS (optional on 3.5t model) and disc brakes all round. This shortens stopping distances considerably, even with a full load. It is assisted in its work by the hydraulic brake with shortened pedal travel and the exhaust brake, which is standard on all Fuso models. The
Fuso’s improved wheel location, the twin tyres and the new suspension system with revised leaf springs all add up to stable, safe handling, enabling your business to stay on the road and out of trouble.
